The JSU Center for University-Based Development is teaming up with the Society of St. Andew (SoSA) to distribute 2,000 pounds of FREE sweet potatoes to area residents.

The Sweet Potato Drop will take place on Friday, December 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon, and will be located at West Jackson’s Sheppard Park (1355 Hattiesburg Street).

Sweet potatoes will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis and will be given until 12 noon or until the supply has been depleted.

About the Society of St. Andrew:

The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that works to relieve hunger by connecting the excess produce from farmers with those in need of food. SoSA works with all Christian denominations and relies upon the efforts of donors, volunteers, and farmers in order to fulfill its mission.

In 2009, SoSA salvaged and distributed over 26.4 million pounds of produce into 32 states through its Potato and Produce Project.  3.2 million pounds were distributed to the needy in Mississippi.  This has resulted in approximately 9.6 million servings of food to hungry Mississippians.
