Free Bike Helmets
The Brain Injury Association is one of the sponsors for the upcoming, “Cruising the Community” event on Saturday, August 24th. They will be giving away free helmets to the first 100 children to register for the event. This event will make children and their parents aware of the new city ordinance that was passed this year that requires everyone to wear a helmet while riding.
Lee Jenkins, executive director of the Brain Injury Association of Mississippi, said in the past year, BIAM has worked with 10 to 15 people who have sustained brain injuries while riding a bicycle without a helmet.
“The only way to cure a brain injury is to prevent a brain injury,” Jenkins said.
