The West Jackson Plan

At any given time, millions of people are writing grants, with the hope of being funded. Unfortunately, most of those grants are not funded, because there is not enough money for everyone. Voice of Calvary Ministries, Inc. wrote a grant and it was funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Relief funds. This grant will assist with redevelopment efforts in the West Jackson Communities. The boundaries were set by the funding agency and Voice of Calvary Ministries contracted with Duvall Decker Architects to assist with planning and implementing the funds.

Duvall Decker Architects has been meeting with West Jackson Stakeholders since March of this year. First they had to understand what the issues and concerns were and second they identified assets in the communities to build upon.

In order to get a better understanding of the housing stock in West Jackson, Duvall Decker led it’s team to go block by block, street by street, and do an inventory of each parcel in the area. The inventory helped identify properties that were in good condition and properties that were abandon. This study is the most up to date and accurate information about the housing stock in West Jackson.

Currently, they are in the process of analyzing their findings. Today, they will be presenting their findings at the University Park Neighborhood Association Meeting. Everyone is invited to come and hear about strategic ways of improving West Jackson.
