Art Exhibit “Exit Six,” Opens Today

Today, Jackson State University will launch the new exhibit, “Exit Six,” at Johnson Hall. The exhibit is a series of contemporary artwork by Chris Kienke, artist and chair of foundations in the Art Department at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana campus. The artwork explores the relationship of identity and stereotypes using the road as its landscape.

Artist, Chris Kienke will be in attendance for the opening and he writes, “This Exit Six series of work is partly an examination of televised sexuality. The use of the fixed tele-visual image(s) allows for a pause and a longer look at the image, while letting the work incubate in the mind of the viewer. This pause also isolates the work from its original edited sequence, allowing the viewer to form a much more personalized and subjective reading of the work.”

The lecture will be held in Johnson Hall, room 218, at 2:00 p.m., followed by an opening reception in the gallery from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
