WESTerday Trivia Answer, C.S.E.T.
In 2009, Jackson State University demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and green technology by constructing and erecting one of the most sustainable buildings in the state, The College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET). This 89,883 square-foot building was constructed at a cost of approximately $22 million and saves the University an estimated $53,136 per year on utilities when compared to facilities of similar size.
CSET is the first LEED-certified building in the city of Jackson and it features passive day lighting to reduce the use of electrical lighting, low volatile organic compounds (VOCS), and recycled contents. The facility also demonstrates its capacity to harvest and sustain 30,000 gallons of storm water run off. CSET features two 15,000-gallon cisterns that are connected to the sprinkler system and are used to irrigate the landscaping of the building.
