Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1923 and has been a place of worship in West Jackson for almost a century. Over the years the congregation grew and in 1972 the church built a new structure at 1245 Tunica Street.

For the past 14 years, Pastor John A. Wicks Jr. has been leading the church of more than 900 members. Beginning in 2012, Mount Nebo began planning and raising funds for their Family Life Center.

According to Pastor Wicks the church has raised most of the funds to begin construction for the building this year. The Family Life Center will be built onto the current church in the parking lot and will feature a gym, stage, multi-purpose room and classrooms.

Mount Nebo has also aquired land on the corner of Aberdeen and Lynch Street. Pastor Wicks states that there are not any immediate plans for the development of this site, but they have invested over $20,000 dollars to do the demolition of three abandon buildings on the site. He says for now the church will maintain the property and keep the grass cut.

Mount Nebo holds a 8:00 a.m. and a 11:00 a.m. service on Sundays.
