New Artwork at Jackson Zoo, Unveiled Today
The Center for University-Based Development (CUBD) at Jackson State University & the Zoo Area Progressive Partnership (ZAPP) Neighborhood Association have teamed up to beautify the Jackson Zoo. These organizations solicited art work from JSU students to paint the traffic signal box on the corner of Capitol Street and Parkside Drive. Brittany Calhoun’s Zoo theme was chosen and over the past couple of weeks, she has painted and completed the box.
The art work will be unveiled to the community on Thursday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will take place at Mr. Discount Drugs parking lot.
We want everyone to come out and take a look at the new artwork and celebrate what is happening in West Jackson!
Please car pool to the event, because parking is limited.
Below is a preview of the artwork.
I think initiatives like this coupled with policy initiatives spear headed by our community/city leaders is the parallel track approach that’s been missing. Big congrats to CUBD & ZAPP for quarterbacking the effort. Please don’t stop!! Projects like this aid in everyone
understanding that efforts, whether big or small, group or individual can make a huge difference in the revitalization of “our” precious West Jackson Community.
Thank you for your comment and feedback. We agree. Regardless of the scale of the project, we are just happy that people are working together to get things done in the community.
