Jackson Zoo Releases Master Plan

jackson zoo mp

Over the past year the Jackson Zoo contracted with PJA, a Seattle-based architecture firm specializing in zoo design, to complete a ten year plan for the zoo. The Jackson Zoo Master Plan proposes major new exhibits, visitor services, and significant revisions to the entry and exit ways. These changes will improve visitor circulation throughout the Zoo, diversify the zoo’s animal and plant collections, improve visitor experience, and improve revenue generation opportunities.

The new Master Plan also seeks to increase and improve interactive and interpretive experiences, including visitor-animal interaction, as well as families interacting together. They want to add a lions den, a rain forest, and a restaurant.

The anticipated yearly attendance for the new Jackson Zoo is between 250-300,000 visitors annually, when the renovations are complete.

The timeline depending on funding is 10 to 15 years before full completion.
