City of Jackson Completes Walking Trail in Battlefield Park

Battlefield Park is the oldest and largest park in the City of Jackson. The park is 54 acres and was a battle ground during the Civil War in 1863. Although this park has many amenities such as tennis courts, basketball courts, and pavilions it was missing a walking trail. So over the past couple of years the City of Jackson planned and budgeted for a one mile walking trail in the park.

Over the last two months the City of Jackson and Hinds County paved a walking trail in the park. It cost about $52,000 thousand dollars to complete.

According to Sammy Smith, Manager of Ground Maintenance for the city, “this is just phase one of improvements for the park. Phase two will include a state-of-the-art playground, which has already begun construction”. He said the playground is going to cost $198,000 thousand dollars.

When the playground is complete we will feature it on the WJ blog and have pictures.
