Hutto’s Home & Garden Center is a family owned business that opened in 1968. The 48 year old business sits on 5 acres of land and they have several locally grown and sourced products. They have the largest selection of tomatoes and okra in which you can choose from over 30 different varieties. Their best selling product is “Mrs. Hutto’s Famous Bedding Mix,” in which they mix soil from different parts of Mississippi to get the perfect blend of soil. Hutto’s also sales local honey, jams, and shelled pecans.

According to Mr. Hutto, West Jackson has been an ideal location for their business and people come in daily and thank them for being in this part of town. In fact, the community supports Hutto’s so much, that this year has been one of their most profitable years to date. Mr. Hutto believes this is because more people are getting back into gardening and growing their own food. He also believes that gardening is therapeutic and appeals to all segments of a society; rich, poor, black or white. He said, “Gardening is an honest place because you cannot cheat a garden.”

Hutto’s has 25 employees and several of the employees have worked their for decades. Blake Hutto, Debbie & Billy Hutto’s son, says it is more than the Hutto family that their business supports, it’s the employees’ families that are very important to the success of the business and they value their employees.
