Boys & Girls Club Receive $20,000 Grant to Purchase Van
Since 1936, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi (BGCCM) has provided after-school and summer youth development programs to youth in the Jackson Metro Area. Serving as a non-profit, the BGCCM seeks out grant funding and other resources to help support its mission.
In August, they were fortunate to receive a $20,000 grant from the Hinds County Board of Supervisors to purchase a new van to transport youth to the BGCCM.
Transportation is always a concern when it comes to after school programs, because it is difficult for parents to leave work and take their children to after school care. In order to ensure youth get to the BGCCM, they provide daily transportation to over 150 students from 19 different schools. This requires a lot of coordination, time, and resources. Hinds County Board of Supervisors saw the importance of the BGCCM and decided to invest in them.
In November, the Capitol Unit BGCCM purchased a new 2015 Ford T-35 Wagon. The wagon seats 15 passengers and is already in usage. The previous van was donated to the Sykes Unit BGCCM.
There are 3 BGCCM units in Jackson and 1 in Canton. The Capitol Unit is thrilled to have a new van to transport its students and they are looking for other grants to provide transportation to the other units.
