Hundreds Attend ‘Taste of West Jackson,’ Pictures
The 2017 Taste of West Jackson was another success this year with nearly 1,000 participants. The event was hosted by Common Ground Covenant Church and is a local food festival featuring restaurants and caterers from the west side of the city.
The community showed up at Claiborne Park, where a myriad of performing artists, local restaurants, vendors, and activities for children where on display in with perfect weather.
The purpose of the Taste of West Jackson is to enhance the economic development in our community by supporting our surrounding businesses.
The planning team was made up of West Jackson’s local restaurant owners and they participated in a food competition that was judged by Chef Nick Wallace, Lee Harper, Pastor Calvin Waddy and the community.
The results were:
Judge’s Choice: 1st Place – Taqueria la reata
2nd Place – Sarah’s Cakes
Honorable Mention – Chi Town Salads and Sandwiches
Crowd Favorites: 1st Place – Sarah’s Cakes
2nd Place – Chef Phillip Brown
Other restaurants that competed were E & L Barbeque, MC Catering and Ooh Lala’s Bakery.
Performing artists included Eunice, “Lady T” LaTonya Coleman, J. Nathan, Four Washington, and Smooth Funk.
Local vendors included RoyalTee JXN, Working Together Jackson, MS Dept. of Child Protective Services, Bab-bling $5 Jewelry, Judah School of Performing Arts, SCORE, Jackson State University (CUBD) and Deep South Pops.
