ZAPP Transforms Capitol Street with Beautiful Mural
The Zoo Area Progressive Partnership (ZAPP) sponsored a Family Volunteer Day on November 18, 2017. The mural painting project was located across the street from the Jackson Zoo on Capitol Street.
There were 8 different murals painted on full 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood. The artists came out and painted the murals with their family members. Capitol Street carries traffic into downtown as well as the zoo and the murals will be enjoyed by thousands of people traveling in this area.
The artwork was varied and four were focused on animals while the other four were a Christian theme. Volunteers were local families, Pecan Park Elementary and a local church. There was also a litter cleanup while the artists painted.
ZAPP plans to come back on Martin Luther King Day in January of 2018 to paint more murals to add to the beautiful collection of art welcoming visitors to our Jackson Zoo.
Funding for the project was partially from a grant received through Generation from DISNEY.
