Community Resource Center Now Open, Metrocenter Mall

On February 16, 2016, Senator Sollie Norwood of District 28, held a grand opening ceremony for the “District 28 Resource Center” located on the lower level of the Metrocenter Mall, suites 11 & 12. Senator Norwood decided to use his love for Jackson to fill a need in the community by opening the resource center in the heart of District 28.

The Senator partnered with United Healthcare of Mississippi to improve reading, literacy and computer skills for students and senior citizens by providing them with a free resource center. The resource center features 10 computers with internet access and visitors have the capability to print documents from the computers. The resource center also has a staff person to assist with any questions or concerns.

Citizens who visit the resource center will be able to obtain information about healthcare, education, housing, and much more! The resource center will also be used by local schools to help students with testing.

In attendance were Jocelyn Chisholm-Carter, CEO of United Healthcare, Lorenda Cheeks, Jackson Public School Principal of Oak Forest Elementary, former Senator Kelvin Butler, Michael Mudd, CFO of Merit Health Central and a vast array of community members.

Senator Norwood said, “The resource center will serve the community and is greatly needed!”
