Co-Op of New West Jackson Recognized by Airbnb

The Cooperative Community of New West Jackson (CO-OP NWJ) is an 8-block community nestled in a blighted, high poverty, disenfranchised area of West Jackson, Mississippi. Through a cooperative model building true economic opportunity through resident-driven enterprises as an answer to generational poverty, systemic exclusion, and years of misguided charity work, their community is beginning to redefine what they consider an asset, understand the power of our cultural narrative, and find solutions for themselves through working together.

After transforming and rehabbing the some of the housing stock in the Co-op, they started renting some of their spaces through Airbnb.  Due to the feedback from those who stayed in the neighborhood, Airbnb is recognizing Nia Umoja as a superhost.  The Co-op NWJ was one of four suberhosts selected for this honor, out of 650,000 superhosts around the world.   Check out part of their story below.
