Statewide Bike Campaign Features WJ Residents
Bike Walk Mississippi serves as the statewide bicycle and pedestrian nonprofit advocacy group in Mississippi. Since 1992, Bike Walk Mississippi has been working on behalf of pedestrians and bicyclists to advocate for increased programs, policies and infrastructure that support a bike-able, walkable and more livable Mississippi.
This past year, Bike Walk Mississippi launched a campaign that brings awareness about bike safety in Mississippi. The campaign features residents that live in West Jackson. These residents include Kass Welchlin, Cassandra Welchlin and their three children and niece. It also features Marcia and Phil Reed. Phil recently biked 67 miles for his 67th birthday.
These residents were featured because they bike in the community and West Jackson has over 2 miles of biking trails. The trails feature 8 feet wide bike lanes and 5 feet wide sidewalks. These trails can be found on the Dr. Robert Smith Sr. Parkway.
Bike Walk Mississippi works with elected officials and municipal leaders to advocate change from the top-down for a bicycle and pedestrian friendly Mississippi. They believe that creating a bicycle and pedestrian friendly Mississippi means increased economic development, access, health, safety and quality of life.
Below is a video and pictures of their campaign that features our very own residents!
