Men of Excellence Black Tie Formal, October 29

Rosemont Human Services, Bottom Rebuilders, and Representative Zakiya Summers have partnered to co-host Men of Excellence Black Tie Formal. This event will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the Jackson Metropolitan Ministerial Fellowship School for Workforce Development, located at 3171 Robinson Road (behind Chuk Stop) in West Jackson.

This program has a two-fold purpose: to inspire and motivate boys and young men by showcasing men from the community in a formal setting and to fundraise for the Fellowship School for Workforce Development. Albert Sykes, Executive Director of Institute for Democratic Education in America, will serve as keynote speaker.

Men of Excellence Black Tie Formal encourages adult men to bring a young man with them. While this program is targeted toward men, we invite women to sponsor their husbands or other men from the community by giving a contribution. Any man or young man in need of formal attire should call Ms. Brenda Carpenter at (601) 355-3121.

There is no cost for entry, but donations are encouraged. Contributions will help to cover expenses for the event as well as support the Fellowship’s endeavor to construct a facility that will train young people from across the city of Jackson to become productive citizens. Checks may be sent to Rosemont Human Services, 3930 Officer Thomas Catchings Drive, Jackson, MS 39209 or via cashapp to $zsummcash. Any amount is welcomed. For more information, contact Ms. Carpenter at the number above or send an email

The Jackson Metropolitan Ministerial Fellowship has been in existence for 51 years. Rev. Jimmie L. Edwards, pastor of Rosemont M.B. Church, serves as the current president. The Fellowship, which is inclusive of more than 20 churches, uses the power of the collective church to serve the community. It has established a workforce development curriculum and is now working to develop the facility that will house the school.
