Innovation Lounge, Now Open

On Monday, February 24, JSU held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Innovation Lounge, which is located on the second floor of the student center.

This project is a part of the Home Depot Retool Your School Campus Improvement grant. The Innovation Lounge now has new furniture, a brand new television, a stereo, and a beautiful art mural done by Sabrina Howard. This grant was secured by JSU’s Office of Community Engagement for $80,000 to transform the space.

Let Your Light Shine, captures the transformative journey of self-discovery and the profound strength found in embracing individuality. It will invite viewers to pause, reflect, and recognize their inherent worth and untapped potential.

Spanning the wall in an array of dynamic blues, two hands are sculpted in a gesture both tender and purposeful, cradling a radiant light at the center ~ symbolizes inner strength, hope, self-realization, and casting an inviting aura throughout the space. It is a beacon of warmth and purpose, encouraging all who encounter it to reflect on their own journey toward authenticity.

Bold, three-dimensional text spells out “Let Your Light Shine,” with the word “shine” gleaming in a glossy finish that captures and reflects the ambient light of the room, causing the word to shimmer with life, amplifying the mural’s presence and sending hues of blue outward, that mimic the radiance of personal expression and connection. These waves symbolize how our true selves, when embraced, have the power to grow, creating positive change and fostering unity.

In a space that encourages learning, collaboration, and personal growth, this mural will speak to students, faculty, and visitors alike.
