P.R.O.M. Promise Pictures

Jackson State University’s Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition held its 3rd annual P.R.O.M. (Please Return On Monday) Promise event Friday, April 11, at the JSU McCoy Auditorium.

Jim Hill High School and Provine High School students who attended the event heard speakers from The Arc of Mississippi headquartered in Hattiesburg.  The speakers informed students about their devastating experiences with drunken driving and domestic violence that left them paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for life.  Students pledged to refrain from drinking and driving on prom night.

Dozens of students visited displays by substance abuse prevention organizations from throughout the metro Jackson area and were able to witness a drunken driving accident provided by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.  The program also included a presentation on suicide prevention.

The event was hosted by Marquis Powell, a local motivational speaker, and Kayla Thompson, WJTV anchor/reporter. Pictures from the event are below.
