Help Us Preserve the Ebony Theater’s Legacy on Lynch Street!

The Office of Community Engagement at JSU is looking for old photos, documents, or memories of the Ebony Theater on Lynch Street, a piece of our community’s history that deserves to be remembered.

We’d be so grateful if you could:

Share the flyer online (social media, community newsletters, local groups—anywhere).

Ask around—maybe a family member, neighbor, or friend has something tucked away.

Reach out to Zaria Miller if you have leads or just want to chat about the project.

This old theater was built in 1947 by Dr. A.H. McCoy and once sat as a vibrant part of what used to be a thriving African American business district on John R. Lynch Street, but today, not much is left and we trying to preserve it.

This effort isn’t just about finding memorabilia, it’s about honoring where we came from and keeping our stories alive.
