Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition Receives $479,788 in funding to continue Impaired Driving Prevention Efforts
The Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition (MJCPC) at Jackson State University has been awarded $479,788 in continuation funding from the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety to provide public information and education designed to increase awareness of the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.
The continuation funding will support initiatives focused on the Mississippi counties with the highest number of alcohol and drug related fatalities and injuries. As part of the initiative, MJCPC will reinforce the national impaired-driving prevention messages, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving,” “If You Feel Different, You Drive Different,” and “Drive High, Get a DUI.” The campaigns provide information and education to encourage safer choices and promote behavioral change.
For Fiscal Year 2027, MJCPC will continue to provide Public Information and Education (PI&E) for targeted populations ages 30 and older, including aging adults. Outreach activities will provide communities with prevention information and resources addressing alcohol and drug impaired driving.
The funding will also allow MJCPC to further collaborate with law enforcement agencies across the state. Through these partnerships, the coalition will support impaired-driving prevention education and information that compliments law enforcement efforts to reduce impaired driving injuries and fatalities.
